However, Josiah was not always the most patience little guy when it came to hiding. He enjoyed being found by his dad. If he were not found in a few minutes, he would start making funny little sounds to help me out. When I would find him he would say, “I knew you could find me, Dad.” He is such an encourager!
As many of you know in the game of hide-and-seek, there are two perspectives, the hider and the seeker. As followers of Christ, did you know that God likes it when we join HIM in a game of Hide & Seek? We are supposed to do both - HIDE away from distractions and SEEK HIM!
Did you know that Jesus would often Hide & Seek? He would hide away and seek God all the time—early in the morning, during the day, during the night, and sometimes all night. He frequently found places to hide away where He could be alone with the Father.
Luke 5:16 He would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
Luke 6:12 He went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
Luke 22:41 He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed,
Mark 1:35 Rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
Mark 6:46 After he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.
If Jesus, the Son of God, needed to hide away and be alone by Himself and seek direction from His Father, don’t you think we need to do the same? Since Jesus gave us an example to follow, we must give serious attention to the concept of hiding and seeking God. All through the scripture we are encouraged to seek the Lord.
Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Hebrews 11:6b He rewards those who seek him.
James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Matthew 6:33 Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Jeremiah 29:13-14 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD
According to these verses it is clear that when we hide away, seek the Lord, and spend focused time with Him, we will experience a closer intimate relationship with Him!
